scientific quality index

The Scientific Quality Index (Pluskiewicz et al. 2019) is a slightly odd metric which is simply the sum of the mean citations per publication and the percent of publications with 10 or more citations (both adjusted for self- and co-author citations, in a perfect world). The authors considered it to be a slightly better judge of quality than metrics such as the h-index.

Example

Publications are ordered by number of non-self citations, from highest to lowest.

Of the 18 publications, 4 have 10 or more non-self citations, 4/18 = 22.2%. The total non-self citations is 125, thus the mean non-self citations per publication is 6.9. The SQI is the sum of these values, or 29.2.
